Top Tips to Maximise the Power of Your Toshiba Laptop
by toshibasatellite on Dec.12, 2009, under Toshiba satellite laptop

Laptops are designed to be used on the move but extended periods of time away from a power point can soon result in a flat battery. If you use your laptop on public transport or in libraries or cafes then keeping your machine charged up is vital to your productivity. Toshiba are one of the largest manufacturers of laptops and PCs in the world and they sell some of the best value for money computers on the market for home, student and business use. If you own one of these models or are considering investing in a new one there are a number of things that you can do to keep yours charged up for longer on the move.
Limit the number of programs that you are running at the same time, especially if you are not using them constantly. Running lots of features makes the processor work harder which draws more power from the Toshiba laptop battery. Remove all USB devices, such as a mouse or speakers, and any other cards that are not vital as these can drain power from the laptop battery. Lowering the brightness setting on the screen can help conserve power. Screen brightness uses up a large amount of power so the lower you can make this the better. Obviously take care not to lower it so much that it damages your eyes or makes working too difficult. Double check that there aren’t any unnecessary programs that may be running in the background of your laptop without your knowledge. Simply open the task manager in Windows and this will highlight any programs that are running which you can manually stop. Take the time to fully empty and recharge your battery about once every three months. This can help the machine to run more efficiently and you may even find that after doing this some programmes will run faster. Take good care of the battery and clean the metal contacts every so often by rubbing a small amount of alcohol on them as this helps to ensure a good connection. Make sure that you store the battery in a cool place in an anti-static bag or container too and don’t use the battery or laptop if you have gone from extreme temperatures. Allow the battery and laptop to reach room temperature before using them as hot batteries discharge very quickly and cold ones can’t create as much power. Check that the vents on the machine are not blocked in any way as it could overheat and overheating can lead to a number of problems one of which is an increase in the self-discharge rate of the battery.
Your Toshiba battery won’t last forever and after around 5 years it’s likely that the battery will end up with a very low capacity. If you follow the tips above though, you should give your laptop every chance of operating effectively for a substantial amount of time. It will also help to ensure that you don’t waste vital battery power unnecessarily so that you can keep working and studying when you need to.

About Toshiba laptop battery test
by toshibasatellite on Dec.04, 2009, under Toshiba satellite laptop

Bear in mind, MobileMark is an industry benchmark test created by Bapco, a consortium that’s headed and funded by Intel. Some of the biggest PC names also sit on this panel, including HP and Dell, and they provide tons of input as to which applications should be included in the benchmark test.
Even though AMD is part of this consortium, its input is probably underappreciated, since the majority of processors that run on these laptops are made by Intel. There’s been a lot of debate, mostly influenced by AMD, about how Bapco’s MobileMark 2007 unjustly represents toshiba satellite j60 battery , toshiba satellite j61 battery, toshiba satellite j62 battery life on laptops.
AMD’s argument is that the industry should adopt a similar battery reporting style as cell phones and digital cameras, where there’s an active and a standby score. The company has a valid gripe, but even so, MobileMark is still the best test out there.
AMD is proposing an active test, in which a gaming benchmark test like 3DMark06 or an HD video would be looped until the battery runs out. Thing is, almost no one does that. AMD is basically saying that MobileMark 2007 tests the equivalent of the standby time in cell phones. That’s a little unfair. Granted, the laptop is using roughly 10 percent of the system resources and there are idle times during the test that brings CPU utilization down to nil. But while the test is made up of various business applications and emulates a day in the life of a business professional, the usage scenarios eat up as much battery life as surfing on the Internet all day.
Thing is, that is exactly what most people do with their laptops. They check their Facebook accounts, compose e-mail, write blog posts, and chat on IM. Although some users may be listening to music or watching videos—tasks that eat up 50 percent to 80 percent of the average CPU, and subsequently battery life, most people don’t use all of the CPU’s power for extended periods of time. Few people play games for three or fours hours straight on a laptop, and if they do they connect to an AC adapter. After all, CPU speeds would typically throttle down and impact gaming performance.
Looping an HD video is more realistic because users can get immersed in a movie or a video. But again, this doesn’t represent the typical day in the life of a user. Sure, Bapco should to address this lack of an active component by introducing applications like iTunes, Windows Media Player, and looping Web pages filled with JavaScript and embedded videos. But that doesn’t mean the current test is invalid. Put simply, MobileMark 2007 is the best test out there. It uses commonly used applications, such as Adobe products, Apple’s Quicktime, and Macromedia’s Flash.
AMD suggests giving two sets of battery scores, a low and a high rating, but this is no better than saying this laptop gives you two to five hours of battery life. We need a definitive score that addresses active and standby times because there are just way too many battery workload scenarios out there. Right now, there is no other recognized standard test available to reviewers.
We at b2c-battery.com.au use laptop battery as our battery test, but with some adjustments to make it more realistic. We don’t crank down our display brightness settings to 20 percent, despite what Bapco recommends. We also leave wireless radios on, because unless you’re on an airplane, a typical user would want to leave WiFi on. We do lower it halfway, though, acknowledging that our readers understand that display brightness will impact j50 battery life.
Perhaps most importantly, MobileMark allows us to test consistently. It offers a fair comparison of battery life across the swath of laptops on the market, at least for the scenario BapCo has created. Of course it could use improvement, but right now MobileMark is the fairest toshiba satellite j50 battery test on the market.

Have you seen those free laptop websites that say you can get a free laptop? Well, I was looking online one day for a laptop as I have been wanting to buy a laptop for a good while now. Toshiba Infuses Gaming Laptops With Triple Nvidia GPUs
by toshibasatellite on Nov.21, 2009, under Toshiba satellite laptop

Toshiba has recently empowered its flagship Qosmio series with two new gaming laptops: the Qosmio X305-Q706 and the Qosmio X305-Q708. These gaming laptops will incorporate Three GPUs in one system with the integrated GeForce 9400M and two Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS cards through SLI (Scalable Link Interface).
Nvidia is naming this triple-card solution as “Hybrid SLI” and it basically offers laptop owners the option of discrete graphics with two connected Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS cards for powerful gaming and then integrated graphics with the GeForce 9400M for lower-power usage like Windows operations.
Toshiba is offering the Qosmio X305 in two versions: the lower priced $1,999 Qosmio X305-Q706, powered by a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. It has a 320GB, 7,200rpm hard drive and the already mentioned GeForce 9400M and the two 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS cards.
For those with huge pockets, Toshiba is offering a higher-end version, the Qosmio X305-Q708 at around $4,199 with a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 quad-core processor and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. It has two hard drives: 128GB solid-state drive and a 320GB, 7,200rpm hard drive. And of course, it will feature the three GPUs.
Both these Qosmio X305 gaming models will have the red-flame design and both will have the 17-inch Diagonal Widescreen TruBrite® Display at 1440×900 native resolution. Plus, stereo sound with 4 Harman Kardon speakers with subwoofer.
If you can get over the fact that gaming laptops are often considered a total waste of money because you can get much better performance for a far cheaper price in a gaming Desktop PC; Toshiba may be pointing us in the right direction. Still, many gamers argue that even 3 mobile chips are not equal to their desktop cousins and if you want ultimate gaming performance go with a PC rather than a laptop.
While there’s a lot of truth to that argument, gaming laptops are catching up in performance and in price. Gaming laptops are using the latest technologies to improve performance, especially through SLI and Hybrid SLI where two or more GPUs are connected to give you a better gaming experience. Call it “Hybrid SLI” or whatever you want, but there’s no denying laptop performance has greatly improved over the last few years.
Still most high end big brand names, like Alienware, charge big prices for all that raw power and style, especially on their fully loaded machines. However, for the prudent consumer there are cheaper gaming laptops that will not break your banking account. Some of these, like the Gateway P-7811FX do offer good value for your money.
Likewise, for those who want a mobile gaming machine and is not worried about the dismal battery life, can look towards the Qosmio X305 gaming laptop series from Toshiba for a solution. It should give you the best of both world in the same laptop: maximum performance and quiet operation. In a recent press release, Carl Pinto, vice president of product development for Toshiba, stated:
“We wanted to deliver an extreme-performance gaming machine that gives gamers a complete, non-compromising system in a laptop form factor… the combination of the NVIDIA GPUs and chipset allowed us to achieve a high level of performance, quality and flexibility that our customers are asking for, at a competitive starting price of $1,999.”
Only the marketplace will decide whether these new laptops sporting three GPUs will fulfill that promise and usher in a whole new era in gaming laptops. At least now all the cards are on the table or should we say in the machine.
